Canvas Doodle 2 is quiet similar to Canvas 4 in terms of looks, although is a bit bigger & heavier. It's also sturdier with a good built quality with the rear body made of aluminum. The volume rocker is on the left side whereas the power button is on the right. The bottom features a micro USB charging port and the top has a 3.5mm audio jack.
The device sports a 5.7" HD IPS display with 720*1280p resolution which provides good viewing angles. The display is bright and outdoor visibility is quiet decent. There's a power saving mode by means of Economical back-light function which automatically adjusts the back-light to save power. One can use the auto mode to adjust the brightness automatically as per the lighting.
Canvas Doodle 2 has a 5MP fixed focus camera at the front that can record videos at 720p HD resolution. At the back, there's a 12MP auto focus camera with LED flash which is capable of recording full HD videos. Functioning of both the cameras is quiet impressive. Outdoor shots in daylight appear to be crisp with near accurate colors. There are several camera settings available such as HDR, smile detection, panorama, face beauty & more. There's a burst mode which allows taking 40-99 shots at one go. The device is capable of recording a full-HD video and the quality of video is just above average.
The phone runs on Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean. One gets five customizable home screens and lots of widgets & apps. There are rich notifications that let you perform several actions such as sharing or deleting an image directly from the lock screen. With Quick Settings you can hold some of the quick toggle buttons to get to the advanced settings.
Canvas Doodle 2 is powered by 2600 mAh battery which lasts for about a day with normal usage such as calls, SMS, image capturing etc. But it has a sealed back cover, so you can’t replace the battery once it drains out completely.
There's a 1.2GHz MediaTek 6589 quad-core processor with 1GB RAM & 16GB of built-in memory. This seems to be sufficient to power the day-to-day tasks smoothly. However results might not be equally smooth when it comes to a bit of complex functions.
Although it looks quiet similar to Canvas 4, Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 is a decent device in terms of display, camera performance, UI, battery life, responsive touch screen that make it a good buy in the price range.
