Blackberry has not experimented too much with the design of Z10. The device is not too attractive in terms of design as it has a pretty straightforward rectangular design with bit of curves. The back of the phone feels good and provides a good grip. Its fairly solid but lacks any premium elements.
Unlike the earlier models of Blackberry, the Z10 doesn’t host any physical buttons on the front panel as they are all incorporated in the UI. Above the screen there's earpiece, LED notification light & a 2MP camera capable of shooting videos in 720p.
The microUSB port for charging/data connectivity and microHDMI port are on the left side whereas the volume rocker is on the right side. There’s a multi-function button placed in between the volume up and down buttons, which accesses the handset’s voice control service when pressed for long. It also acts as a media playback button to pause/play music tracks.
At the back there's 8Mp multifocus camera with LED flash capable of shooting videos at 1080p.
The device has a 1280×768p display with good viewing angles, sharpness & contrast. The brightness of the screen is also quiet good, however a 1080p display would have been a great addition.
The 8MP main camera is a great improvement than the typical Blackberries. Its easy to access the camera app. which can be opened from the lock screen by holding down your finger on the camera icon in the bottom right corner, or it can be accessed from the home screen. Shots taken outdoors with sufficient lighting are good but the quality seems to drop if the lighting is low. However the LED flash can come to the rescue during such time.
With 1080p, the video quality too is decent enough but nothing exceptional.
The BlackBerry Z10 is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor alongside 2GB RAM, which is capable of handling everything we threw at it with ease, including playing full-HD videos.
The device is powered by 1800 mAh removable battery which has an average output of about 12 hours with normal usage. This could have been better.
Call quality is excellent with the voices on both ends of the line are clear and distinctive. One will not suffer much through call drops or signal fluctuations.
Overall, for all the Blackberry fans out there, there's a lot to like about this new & solid device with a bit of a bland design.
